- Rodent Exclusion & Proofing
The permanent half of every rodent job
Rodent proofing that closes every dime-wide door in the structure
Mice need a dime-wide gap, rats a quarter, and an older house offers dozens of each. Exclusion is the survey-and-seal service that finds every one, from the garage door corners to the roofline gaps, and closes them with materials rodents cannot chew back open. It is the difference between treating mice annually and not having them.

- Full-structure entry survey
- Gnaw-proof materials, not foam alone
- Documented before-and-after on every gap
Rodent exclusion is a structure-wide survey and sealing service: every gap a mouse or rat could use, foundation cracks, utility and pipe penetrations, garage door corners, dryer and HVAC ducts, foundation vents, roofline junctions and gnawed openings, is located, documented and closed with gnaw-resistant materials like steel mesh, hardware cloth, sheet metal and masonry repair. Expanding foam alone is a snack, not a seal, and we use it only as backing. The result is the one rodent service that is genuinely permanent.
What this covers
Survey like a mouse, seal like a mason
The survey walks the structure at rodent height and rodent logic: the full foundation line, every pipe, cable and conduit penetration, the sill-to-siding junction, window wells, crawl vents, the garage door's corner gaps and threshold, then up the rooflines where gable vents, soffit returns and the chimney chase give roof rats and squirrels their routes. Each opening is photographed and measured, so you see exactly what was found and exactly what closed it.
Materials are where exclusion jobs succeed or quietly fail. Rodent teeth defeat foam, caulk and plastic screening in a night, so our seals are built from quarter-inch hardware cloth, stainless mesh packed into penetrations, sheet-metal flashing at gnawed corners, mortar at masonry gaps, and commercial-grade garage door rodent guards, with sealant as weatherproofing over the metal rather than the barrier itself. Done this way, the work outlives the truck that installed it.

Pricing, plainly
What moves the price
Exclusion quotes follow the survey, since the gap count is the job. The drivers:
- Structure size and the linear footage of foundation and roofline
- Entry-point count found in the survey
- Construction age, since stone and brick repairs run heavier than caulk-grade gaps
- Garage doors and outbuildings in the scope
- Crawl space access and vent count
- Roofline work requiring ladder or roof time
- Pairing with an active trapping program, which shares visits
Figures referenced are published national ranges for context, not our quote. We price your job on the phone and confirm on site before any work starts.
Choosing between them
Exclusion against repeat baiting, plainly
| One-time exclusion | Ongoing baiting | |
|---|---|---|
| What it fixes | The routes in | The rodents currently using them |
| Duration | Permanent, with an annual check | As long as you keep paying |
| Winter outcome | House stays closed in October | New arrivals meet new bait |
| Side effects | None | Carcass odors, non-target risk, refill visits |
| Best fit | Any home that has had rodents twice | Properties awaiting repairs or demolition |
How we match the job
Exclusion jobs by scope
- 01
Whole-structure proofing
The complete survey and seal, ground to roofline, the version that ends annual mouse season.
- 02
Post-infestation sealing
The exclusion phase of an active rodent program, run as trapping winds down.
- 03
Garage and outbuilding packages
Doors, thresholds and framing gaps on the structures that feed the main house.
- 04
Crawl space and foundation focus
Vents screened, access doors fitted, penetrations packed under older homes.
- 05
Pre-winter checkups
An annual fall walk of previously sealed homes, re-tightening anything weather moved.
Local conditions
Why this matters in Belleville
Exclusion earns its keep fastest on exactly the housing Belleville has. Pre-war brick and stone foundations carry a century of settled cracks and retrofit penetrations, original garages hang doors that no longer meet their frames, and the fall mouse push off the field edges finds every one of them each October. On these blocks, the choice is genuinely between sealing once and trapping every winter. Newer construction out toward Shiloh needs the lighter version, usually garage corners, dryer ducts and the builder gaps around utilities.

How a visit runs
How the job runs
- Rodent-height survey
Every gap located, measured and photographed, ground level to roofline.
- Priority map
Active entries flagged first, candidate gaps behind them, in a written scope.
- Metal-first sealing
Mesh, hardware cloth, flashing and masonry where teeth will test it.
- Trap-out coordination
On active jobs, sealing is sequenced so nothing is closed in.
- Documented handoff
Before-and-after photos of every seal, plus the annual-check offer.

Before you call
Questions we hear about this work
The seals are; the house keeps aging. That is why the handoff includes photos of every seal and an optional annual fall check, which takes a fraction of the original visit and catches anything settling reopened.
Rodents chew through cured foam in minutes; it is insulation, not armor. We use it only as backing behind metal. Any exclusion quote built on foam alone is priced for the redo.
Partially and carefully: active routes stay workable for the trap-out and close last. Sealing everything on day one traps animals in your walls, which is a worse week than the one you called about.
Never blocked, screened: quarter-inch hardware cloth and purpose-made weep covers keep airflow and drainage while closing the doorway. Ventilation stays; rodents do not.
The single most common entry we seal: corner guards, threshold work and side-seal repair close it. If the door itself is failed, we will say so rather than seal around a lost cause.
Substantially; the same gaps admit crickets, spiders, and the fall invaders. It is the one service on this site that quietly improves half the others.
The survey is systematic rather than sightings-driven, every foot of foundation and roofline, and the documentation shows it. The annual check is the honesty mechanism: if something new opens, it gets found before October does.
